Freedom In Writing

Writers are like other creatives, given the chance to write whatever they want, however they want it. We are one of the few free birds in the creative industry (if this is a thing).

Over the years, there have been a lot of written pieces about how writers should be given the required space to use their creative juices.

“How can you produce genius when you are not given space?” This is one of the many questions that have formed the freedom given to writers to do their best at their own pace.

All of this is good, really good. But, I beg to be a killjoy this time. This is just a process of thinking things through.

Can the applauds stop for a bit? Critics are no longer bold enough to do what they know best. I am beginning to think that we have rebranded constructive criticism. We just might be patronizing people in the name of critiquing their work.

The freedom is great but some of it is not so great for some of us. Some need to be told the truth, with no words minced. You may need to be hard on people and that would be okay.

P.S.- I don’t know if I’d regret writing this snippet tomorrow but today, this is how I feel.
